Wetland Park serves 2010 Shanghai Expo
Chengdu City is planning to build a wetland park at 2010 Shanghai Expo. The park will be 2,680 square meters and located in the Puxi section of the 2010 Expo site. Soil and vegetation will be used to purify rainwater.
The wetland park costs twenty million Yuan. 30 cubic meters of water can be purified every day, which will be used to flush toilets on the 2010 Expo site.
They will build an underground pond, which is about 200 cubic meters, to collect rainwater or water from Huangpu River for purification. Next the water will be pumped to terraced fields. Finally it will be purified as it starts at the top of the 2.5-meter terrace and flows down through the 16 fields.
There will also be 60 species of trees and plants in the park, which will cover an area of about 1,200 square meters.
The park will be shaped as a fish. Visitors will enter the park from the mouth of the fish. They can see how the water changes from dirty to clean, said Lin Nong, chief engineer of the park. The tail of the fish will have a piano keyboard. Water will spray onto visitors once they step on a key.
