
Shanghai promotes Car Free Day to support 2010 Expo
The unveiling ceremony of “2009 China Car Free Day” activity and “The most satisfied sidewalk of Shanghai” survey were held today.
The activity tends to advocate and encourage using of public transport, bicycle, pedestrianism and other green transportation travel mode.
In order to create a good countenance to support 2010 Shanghai World Expo, the Shanghai municipal departments have developed a comprehensive regulation since the second half of 2006. The bus stations, telephone booths, news stalls, portable toilets and other facilities will be included in the regulation.
According to the statistics, Shanghai has finished 3.68 million-square-meter sidewalk renovation. The improving of the sidewalks in Shanghai builds a safe, convenient, comfortable and beautiful walking environment for the public.
There are many activities in the Car Free Day this year, such as, installing a no-car model road in West Nanjing Road of Jingan District, holding participatory activities for the public. People can vote for “the most satisfied sidewalk of Shanghai” on internet.
