Shanghai World Expo is hoped to achieve the "Low-carbon Expo" goal
Yang Xiong, vice Mayor of Shanghai and deputy director of Shanghai World Expo Executive Committee, expressed that Shanghai Expo would be hoped to achieve the “Low-carbon Expo” goal, in today’s interview about the preparation of Shanghai Expo.
Yang said that shanghai Expo theme “Better Life, Better City” should be referred to a more ecological, environment-friendly and green urban development. So the Executive Committee is putting emphasis on the "Ecological, Environmental and Green Expo" concept and carbon emissions all the while since the very starting of the preparation work.
There are five measures the Shanghai Expo will take to implement the "Ecological, Environmental and Green Expo" concept, Yang said.
First, Shanghai Expo Site selection was combined with the city's alteration. The existed steel works was relocated which directly reduce carbon emissions and improve the environment.
Secondly, the ecological and low-carbon concept has been taken into account in the Expo Site planning including appropriate walking distance, energy saving, ecological effects and the sustainable utilization.
Third, the Shanghai World Expo Executive Committee and the UN Environment Program jointly worked out the "2010 Shanghai World Expo Green Guide". Energy-saving and green technologies were greatly adopted in the construction of 2010 Shanghai Expo.
Fourth, the Urban Best Practices Area provides an opportunity to display the best and latest energy-saving ecological building selected by International Selection Committee, which will promote the large-scale use of green, environmental and energy saving technology in urban development in the future.
