The first batch of Expo registered volunteers will attend in the preparatory work

277 volunteers have been confirmed to participate in the preparatory work as the first batch of Expo registered volunteers on the 200-day countdown to the 2010 Shanghai Expo.

According to reports, the main duty of these volunteers is to assist the volunteer stations in the Expo volunteer mobilization, recruitment, selection, promotion, training, site construction and other related work. They would enter the Expo Site and urban volunteer stations to carry out volunteer services during the operational phase of 2010 Expo.

The 277 volunteers are selected from the candidates recommended by 72 Shanghai volunteer stations, including college students, workers, self-employed personal, returnees, retired cadre, retired teachers, and Hong Kong compatriots.

According to the volunteer group of Shanghai Expo, of 277 volunteers there are 107 males, 170 females. About 213 volunteers have Bachelor degree or above, which hold a percentage of 76.89. 232 volunteers are students, 16 are workers from government departments or foreign enterprises, and 19 are retired workers and self-employed personal.
