Shanghai Expo will set up alternate airports in east China

To meet the large passenger flow during 2010 shanghai world expo, Shanghai Airport Authority revealed on the 14th that the two international airports have set up a dedicated channel, a service window for Expo, and provided all-weather Check-in services.

Airports in east China will be expected to become the alternate airports for Shanghai World Expo flights if the two airports have reached their peaks.

Wang Guangdi, vice president of Shanghai Airport Authority, said that Pudong Airport and Hongqiao Airport have reached an annual 60-million-passenger-traffic at present. It is expected that the traffic flow would be 11.55 to 16.8 million during the Expo. The two airports will get a daily 250-thousand-passenger-traffic by then, and the daily flight number will increase to 1,800 which will bring a severe test for the safe operation and service level of Shanghai Airport Authority.

To ensure a safe environment, Shanghai Airport Authority expressed that Hongqiao Airport will have two airport terminal buildings and two runways after the completion of the Hongqiao Airport expansion project, which will meet a requirement of 30-million passenger traffic annually.

Wang said that airports in east China were expected to become the Expo flights alternate airports. Relevant plans are under preparation currently.
