Shanghai household garbage will be transported by containers during 2010 Expo

As the first completed project of the fourth Shanghai three-year-environmental Plan, the largest national solid waste container-transport system of Asia was launched on October 16.

80 percent of Shanghai household garbage will be transported by containers before 2010 Shanghai Expo.

It was learned that Shanghai produces more than six million ton garbage annually, five million ton of which are coming from the urban area.

Over the years, most of the garbage was being transported to Laogang Town in bulk by water or land carriage. The containerization transport system will solve the problem of environment pollution caused by the possible drip completely.

It is reported that the entire system, including two transshipment stations and three wharfs, cost 1,000 million Yuan. The household garbage will be sent to Laogang wharf after compression packing in each transshipment station.

Related responsible person said that Shanghai household garbage was hoped to apply the container transport during 2010 Shanghai Expo.
