Shanghai’s concert Hall, net cafes and public elevators were included in non-smoking areas

The scope of total bans on smoking is expanded in the latest draft of Shanghai’s public tobacco control law. Concert halls, public elevators and net cafes are included in the no-smoking areas this time.

The latest draft provided that the dance halls, game halls, medium-sized dinning places and airports can set up a specialized area for smokers. The smoking areas should have a good ventilation condition, and set a clear marking. The hotels should set up a dedicated non-smoking floor or rooms.

Some standing committee members and the public suggested that state organs and their staff should take the lead in smoking ban to set an example for the whole society. The new draft adopted the suggestion and increased a related regulation that the meeting room, dining room and other public workplace of state organs should be smoke-free.

The legislation gives citizens the right of individual reporting of any smoking behavior within non-smoking areas.
