Brazil celebrates Expo Pavilion Day

Brazil celebrates its National Pavilion Day with gala performances in America Square and the World Expo Center.

Entertainment includes world-famous Brazilian music and dance, from samba to bossa nova and modern Afro-Brazilian pop, Latin, jazz and other combinations with European and Amerindian elements. At this morning's ceremony at the Shanghai Expo Center, China's Finance Minister Xie Xuren and Brazilian Minister of Finance Guido Mantega delivered speeches. Xie said the Shanghai Expo is a grand gathering for fruits of civilizations and World Expos have played a role in promoting international exchange worldwide.

Bilateral ties have seen noticeable achievement since diplomatic ties were established 36 years ago, Xie noted, adding that he believed the Expo would serve as a new platform for the two people to strengthen understanding, deep friendship and expand cooperation. Mantega congratulated the organizers' work on behalf of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. He said China is Brazil's major trade partner and the country views the Expo as a sound platform for Brazil to display its investment opportunities to the world. Mart'nalia, the daughter of samba legend Martinho da Vila, performed with her unique timbre, showing her skills in dance, guitar and percussion.

The Brazil Pavilion has the theme, "Pulsing Cities: Feel the Life of Brazilian Cities." The 2,000-square-meter pavilion features an interactive virtual show on life in Brazil. Visitors can play football with virtual football players and control players from their personal mobile phones.
