Oman celebrates Expo Pavilion Day

Today is Oman celebrates National Pavilion Day in Shanghai Expo site. China and Oman have had friendly exchanges over the years and Oman hoped to share its experience in urban and rural construction, sustainable development and multicultural blending and learn from other countries by participating in the Expo, Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Manthri, Chairman of the State Council of the Sultanate of Oman, said at this morning's official ceremony at the World Expo Center.

Oman would display its cultural legacy, folk art and culture at the Expo, he said. Liu Qi, deputy director of the State Energy Administration of China, said the Oman Pavilion showcases the country's natural beauty and culture heritage, as well as its pursuit of sustainable and harmonious development of people and nature. Exploring the theme "Evolving Journey," the 2,000-square-meter pavilion combines the blue-and-gold prow of a traditional Omani sailing ship with a white fort.

At the rear is the distinctive round tower of Oman's old capital, Nizwa. In front, the elegant tower of Sohar, a port city once known as "The Gateway to China," welcomes visitors. Oman lies on the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula and the pavilion combines Arabian features and modern styles. The pavilion in Zone A exhibits old Omani towns, port cities and cities in the desert and mountains.
