Shipping Pavilion

Shipping Pavilion
The China State Shipbuilding Corporation, the owner of the more than 140-year-old Jiangnan Shipyard, will build a pavilion on the Huangpu River to provide an insight into future waterside life at the Shanghai World Expo.

The corporation has a great deal of experience in building various kinds of warships and auxiliary vessels as well as related equipment for the Chinese navy. The original shipyard has been relocated to Changxing Island.

The pavilion will cover an area of 5,000 square meters and be renovated from a welding workshop in the shipyard.

Shipping Pavilion will make use of some historical buildings on a plot which once housed the 142-year-old Jiangnan Shipyard. The original shipyard has been relocated to Changxing Island.

Although it does not look like a ship, the pavilion will be supported by a steel keel.

The corporation will also showcase the development of the country's shipping industry and exhibit models of future ships.

It is the 13th corporate pavilion confirmed for Expo. Expo will have 16 corporate pavilions.
